Ardella Frances Rold, daughter of Vernon and Effie (Christensen) Rold was born February 20, 1934, in Shelby County (Monroe Township).
She attended Rosehill No. 2 country school, kindergarten through eighth grade. She graduated from Harlan High School. She then worked as a secretary at the Shelby County Welfare Office for two years. Ardella was encouraged to visit Sioux Falls College in South Dakota by her pastor at Altamont Baptist Church. She graduated in June of 1962 with a bachelor's degree in religious education.
Ardella worked as a secretary for First Baptist Church in Casper, Wyoming and for American Baptist Convention in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. In 1968, she started as a program director for the YWCA in Clinton, Iowa; she then went to Kansas City, Kansas to be an executive director then to Grand Island, Nebraska to run their facilities. In 1984, Ardella moved south to Hasting, Nebraska where she worked for the next 21 years for Adams County Senior Services as their executive director.
In December of 2005, Ardella moved back to Shelby County, Iowa to be closer to family and friends. She died on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, attaining the age of eighty-eight years, seven months, and two days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Ellie Whitaker, Howard Rold, and Myrna Peters; and brother-in-law Mike Whitaker.
She is survived by her nephew Chris Whitaker of Carroll, Iowa; and brother-in-law Kenneth Peters of Walnut, Iowa; cousins and friends.
