Doris E. Schelldorf Sorensen was born on a farm in Hayes Township, Ida County, Iowa, July 3, 1916, the daughter of Axel and Selma Carlson Bloom. She was raised on the farm attending the rural schools before being graduated from the Kiron High School with the class of 1934. On December 23, 1936, Doris was united in marriage with LeRoy Schelldorf at Kiron, Iowa. Their union was blessed with two children, Janet and Harlee. They made their home in Kiron where, in addition to being a housewife and mother, Doris was employed for several years as a cook at the Kiron School. LeRoy died August 27, 1971 and following his death Doris moved to Rockwell City, Iowa. On September 14, 1974, Doris was united in marriage with Wade Sorensen at Fort Dodge, Iowa. They made their home in Rockwell City where Doris enjoyed being a dining room hostess at Sunny View Retirement Home. Wade died in February of 1997 and Doris continued to reside in Rockwell City until moving to Webster City, Iowa in 1999. While residing in Kiron, Doris was a longtime member of the Evangelical Free Church where she served as organist and pianist and was a member of their Ladies Aid and Ladies Missionary Society. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, playing the organ and piano and was happiest when spending time with her family. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Axel and Selma Bloom and her husbands, LeRoy and Wade. Those remaining to cherish and honor her memory include one daughter, Janet and husband, Dean Norelius of Webster City, Iowa, one son, Harlee Schelldorf of Omaha, Nebraska, one grandson, Dan Norelius and his wife, Sherry of Ankeny, Iowa, two great granddaughters, Kathleen Norelius of Chicago, Illinois and Amanda Norelius of Ankeny, Iowa, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2008, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison with Pastor John Aiken officiating. Music for the service was provided by Sue Rosener singing, "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord", with the. Rev. Glenn Rankin serving as organist. Pallbearers included Lonny Schmadeke, Dennis Goetsch, Rodger Larson, John Larson, Gary Carlson and Larry Carstensen. Interment was at the Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa. Following interment the family invited those in attendance to join them at Cronks in Denison for refreshments.
