Dorothy Ann Jensen, daughter of John and Erna Ruberg, was born on Nov 26, 1933, on a farm near Denison. She was the youngest of 4 children and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She attended Coon Grove Country School, Lutheran Parochial school, and graduated from Denison High School in 1951. From a young age, Dorothy always wanted to be a nurse. Following high school this dream was fulfilled as she attended Omaha U and Jennie Ed, graduating in 1954 with a RN degree.
On March 27, 1954, Dorothy was united in marriage to Keith Jensen. They lived on the family farm outside of Irwin until they moved to town in 2001 when they built their new home. She worked at Myrtue Memorial Hospital for the first twelve years of their marriage. Following that she was the school nurse for 25 years at Irwin Kirkman school system.
Dorothy enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with her friends. Her church was very meaningful to her. She had a lovely singing voice and enjoyed participating in choir. She also served as a Sunday School teacher, Board of Ed, Council, and Women’s Society. In addition, she served on the Women’s golf board, and was a member of several card clubs.
Keith and Dorothy enjoyed traveling and took each of their grandchildren on a special trip. All have special memories of grandma, whether it was fishing, and seeing her at sporting events, or the food she made just for them: big round pancakes, sticky buns and cinnamon rolls, cream puffs, and so much more. She also loved spending time with her family and never turned down an opportunity to help out in any way.
Dorothy died on November 14, 2020, at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 19 days at Eventide Nursing Home in Denison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith, and her parents. She has left to cherish her memory her children: Joni and her husband Scott of Wisconsin, Nancy and her husband Alan of Denison, Linda and her husband Kurt of Omaha, and James and his wife Adrienne of Idaho, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brother Ray Ruberg of Moville, sisters Betty Griffin of Denison and Jean Jensen of Audubon; Sisters in law Donna Campbell and husband Norman of Irwin and Caryl McMahon and husband Bill of Irwin, other family members and friends.
