Gary Lee Nash was a farmer, businessman, and family man who was born on August 7, 1947, in Atlantic, Iowa. He was the son of Ross and Maxine (Dinkey) Nash. Gary grew up near Marne, where he started his education at a country school before moving on to Walnut, where he graduated with the class of 1965. After high school, he started his farming career.

On September 3, 1966, Gary married Linda Timberman at the Methodist Church in Oakland, Iowa. The couple settled in Marne, where Gary ran a gas station and later rented a farm outside of Walnut. Gary and Linda continued to farm and lived on various farms for the next 48 years. He was proud to be able to own 400 acres of land when he retired in 2014. Upon retiring, Gary and Linda bought an acreage and did several renovations and are remarkably proud to call it home.

In addition to farming, Gary and Linda started Ideal Realty in 1983. They sold many farms, houses and acreages until 2017. Gary was a hardworking and dedicated man who will be missed by his loved ones and the community. Gary was a member of the Optimist Club, Pork Producers Association and Cattlemen’s Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and playing cards with friends and relatives.

Gary passed away on July 28, 2023, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 21 days. He was preceded in death by his father, Ross, and his son, Ryan. However, his memory will be cherished by his wife Linda Nash of Walnut, Iowa, son, Kasey, and wife, Carrie Nash, of Papillion, Nebraska, along with his grandchildren, Collin, Cade, Carter, and Kylie Nash. He also leaves behind his mother, Maxine Nash, of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and sister, Sharon Elske, of Elkhorn, Nebraska, as well as other family and many friends.

The family has expressed that memorials be directed to the following organizations:
Walnut Fire & Rescue and the Walnut Community Center Foundation
