*In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in honor of Jim to a charity of your choice.*
James (Jim) Darrell Crawford was born on May 23rd, 1948 to Helen and William Crawford in Maysville, KY. Growing up on the family tobacco farm, Jim established a strong work ethic and commitment to family. He lived in Orangeburg, KY until 1967 when he graduated from Mason County High School at which time he enlisted in the United States Army. Jim served in Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star Medal among other recognitions, and was honorably discharged in 1977. He then worked for the US Postal Service until he joyously retired in 2003.
Jim was active in the local community where he served on the fire department, township committee, and school board. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and the parish choir.
Jim was proud of his family and loved them deeply. He was married to Lois Reinig in 1979 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portsmouth, IA. Jim and Lois raised four children; Desiri, Scott, Rob, and Gina. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and joining Lois on adventures near and far.
Along with his family, Jim's other great loves included Kentucky Wildcat basketball, western movies, golfing, bowling, softball, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and telling stories. As the saying goes, 'there were no strangers in his life, only friends he hadn't met.'
The memories we have of him make great stories as well! His unique pronunciation of words (corkus vs. carcass; umberella vs. umbrella; sallamin vs. salmon) will provide laughs for a long time to come. Jim had an uncanny ability to draw to-scale maps of pastures and hunting plans with precision but was unable to find the interstate he'd just exited. His quirks and boisterousness made him one of a kind and loved by many.
Jim passed away on July 3rd, 2020 surrounded by his family at the age of 72. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings; William Jr. Crawford and wife Margie, John Crawford and wife Lillian, Eddie Crawford, father-in-law Robert Reinig, brother-in-law Larry Reinig, sister-in-law Marge Walsh, and grandchildren; Isaiah Wilwerding, Jacob Wilwerding, Hannah Wilwerding, Samuel Wilwerding, and Grace Clemen.
