James R. Schroeder

James R. Schroeder was born at Arcadia, Iowa, June 21, 1932, the son of John and Stella Muenchow Schroeder. He was raised on the farm there and was graduated from St. John?s Catholic High School with the class of 1950. Following high school James was employed at the Federal Bureau of Investigation Office in Washington, D.C. In 1951, James was united in marriage with Enid Allender at St. Ann?s Catholic Church in Vail. Their union was blessed with three sons, Robert, John Scott and Charles. From April 1, 1953 until his discharge March 31, 1955, James served his country in the United States Army. Following the service he made his home in Denison where he was employed at the Denison Gas Company and at Farmland from which he retired in 1986. He spent his retirement years in Denison, most recently residing at the Denison Care Center. In his spare time he enjoyed pheasant hunting, watching basketball, football and baseball, playing cards and socializing with family and friends. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison and the American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa. James died Sunday morning, February 10, 2008, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 75 years, 7 months and 20 days. James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Stella Schroeder, two sons, John Scott and Charles Schroeder, one brother, Paul Schroeder and one sister, Patsy Carmichael. Survivors include one son, Robert Schroeder and wife, Diane of Vail, two grandsons, Dan Schroeder and special friend, Michelle Spidell of Des Moines and Jim Schroeder and wife, Jen of Story City, Iowa, three brothers, John Schroeder and wife, Alice of Arcadia, Lawrence Schroeder of Vail and Thomas Schroeder of Wylie, Texas, one sister, Barbara Wiegan of Austin, Texas, other relatives and friends. Private funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with Father John M. Thomas officiating. Those serving as pallbearers included Dan Schroeder, Jim Schroeder, Robert Lickteig, Keith Petersen, Bill Krajicek and Larry Carstensen. Interment was at St. Ann?s Catholic Cemetery at Vail, Iowa. Following the services those in attendance were invited to join the family for a meal at Cronks in Denison.
