Jane Marcia Harris-Jacobsen, daughter of Ted and Lucille (Warner) Harris, was born March 24, 1943 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She started out elementary in country school then attended Avoca Elementary, graduating from Dow City High School.
On December 29, 1961, Jane was united in marriage to Larry Jacobsen. The young couple moved to San Diego, California when Larry enlisted into the Navy. They returned to Iowa in 1966, and built their own brick home in Hancock. Jane worked as a cook at Hancock-Avoca Elementary for some time, then worked at Gresses Locker while raising her children. Jane and Larry became the owner/operators of Jacobsen Oil Company in 1988, while continuing to be the bookkeeper for Larry E. Jacobsen Construction. She was a longtime member of the Hancock United Methodist Church, Bunco Club, Book Club @ the Avoca Library, United Methodist Women, an avid walker with Bonnie Hoffmann.
Jane loved the outdoors, mowing the lawn, and working in her flower gardens. Helping her sisters do projects at their homes and her annual trips to Okoboji with her girlfriends were some of her favorite things to do. Babysitting first for her six grandkids then most recently her four great-grandkids, held a special place in her heart. She was always a phone call away, always helping where she was needed. She enjoyed helping the Krohn’s with meals at harvest time.
Jane died surrounded by her loving family at her home on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, attaining the seventy-four years, five months and twenty days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Don Harris.
She has left to cherish her memory, her husband of fifty-five years Larry Jacobsen of Hancock, Iowa; children Joy and her husband Dean Krohn of Avoca, Iowa; Daniel Jacobsen and his wife Mary of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; grandchildren Adam Krohn and his wife Kristen, Preston Krohn and his wife Ashley, Joshua Krohn and his fiancé Taylor, Davis Jacobsen all of Avoca, Iowa; Ensign Benjamin Jacobsen of Milton, Florida; Hana Jacobsen of Omaha, Nebraska; great-grandchildren Parker and Blair Krohn, Kinley and Sadie Krohn; siblings Claire Palmer of Oakland, Iowa; Janice Nielsen of Hancock, Iowa; Lynn Harris and his wife Janice of Bellevue, Nebraska; in-laws Kay Prine of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Cheroylene and her husband Jay Holder of Spring Valley, California; Lynn Jacobsen of Oakland, Iowa; Lon Jacobsen and his wife Diane of Avoca, Iowa; special friend Sally Jacobsen; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
