Joyce E. Miller

Joyce Elaine Miller was born on February 13, 1952 to Wilfred and Arlene (Sick) Stinn in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Persia, Iowa and attended Leland Grove country school through the eighth grade. She then attended and graduated from Harlan High School in Harlan, Iowa.
On May 8, 1971, she was united in marriage to Allan Miller in Harlan. Two daughters were born to this union: Kimberly and Kelly. Joyce worked several waitressing jobs and had an accounting job in Omaha, Nebraska, before quitting to start an antique refinishing business with her sister, Jan. She and Jan also made and sold crafts which Joyce continued to do with her daughters after Jan�s death in 2005.
In her spare time, she enjoyed preparing income taxes for people in the community and doing bookwork for local businesses.
Joyce served on the Persia City Council, the PIC Hall Committee and was a member of the LWML. She enjoyed gambling but her favorite hobby of all time was spoiling her three grandchildren.
Joyce died at her home on Saturday, November 5, 2011, having attained the age of fifty-nine years, eight months, and twenty-three days. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Janice Stuhr.
She is survived by her husband Allan Miller of Persia, Iowa; daughters Kimberly and her husband Stephen Lindquist of Persia and Kelly and her husband Kevin Chapman of Persia; three grandchildren: Josh, Olivia, and Kollin; sisters and brothers: Carolyn and her husband Max Nelson of Persia, Iowa, Lee Stinn and his wife Kathy of Harlan, Iowa, Jean and her husband Craig Stahl of Harlan, Bill Stinn and his wife Tami of Westphalia, Iowa, Mike Stinn and his wife Teresa of Harlan, and Ann and her husband Dennis Andersen of Harlan, other family members and friends.
Rev. Merlene Ostebee officiated the 10:00 AM funeral service on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Persia, Iowa. Music was provided by Judy Iwen. Honorary casket bearers were Jerry Stinn, Tommy Stinn, Dan Stinn, and Corey Miller. Serving as casket bearers were John Nelson, Ted Nelson, Jason Stinn, Devin Stahl, Justin Stinn, and Jesse Andersen. Interment was held at Valley View Cemetery in Persia, Iowa.
