LaVonne Irene Anderson was born on April 19, 1931 in Shelby County. She was the daughter of Albert and Mabel (Christensen) Sorensen. She was one of three children.
During special meetings in September of 1943, the Holy Spirit convicted her of her need to accept Christ as her Savior. She was baptized in October of 1943.
She attended a one-room school for the first eight years and graduated from Harlan High School in 1948. She taught two years in a country school.
LaVonne was united in marriage to John Anderson on August 12, 1949. They were blessed with four daughters.
They were part of the original group who began Calvary Baptist Church in 1951 for the purpose to meet the needs of God’s people and reach out to those who did not know Christ.
She passed away on Friday, July 31, 2020 at the age of 89 years at her Elm Crest home. LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, her brother, and her sister.
She is survived by her daughters Susie (Earl) Caddock of Plano, TX; Jan Hallam of Council Bluffs, IA; Shari (Jeff) Gouldsmith of Omaha, NE; and Sally (Dan) Hawn of Harlan; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and other family members and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Walnut or First Baptist Church in Harlan.
