Lyle Walker, Jr Son of Lyle D. Walker and Myrtle M. Peterson was born April 4, 1943 in Harlan, Iowa. He attended (country school) Center #4 through 8th grade and graduated from Harlan High School in 1961.
Lyle served at US Army Base Fort Ruckar, Alabama from 1968 - 1972. He worked with financial records of incoming/outgoing army personal, with personnel records and warrant officer candidates and typed orders for outgoing army personnel. Lyle graduated in 1972 from Troy State University, Fort Rucker Branch, Alabama with a major in accounting and a minor in Business. After his discharge from the army, Lyle worked at Harlan Home Federal Savings and Loan as a Controller. He also worked fro Thummel Tax Service checking nearly all the income tax returns for accuracy prepared by Thummel Tax Service January to April of each year. Lyle worked for Resolution Trust Corporation. He was one of only a few people retained from Home Federal Savings and Loan. Lyle helped prepare government reports. Lyle then worked for H & R Block checking hundreds of income tax returns for accuracy. He also worked for CDS opening mail.
On June 14, 1980, Lyle and Marcia Blakely were united in marriage at first Baptist Church in Harlan. Two children were born to this union, Jeremy and Amy.
Lyle was a charter member of First Baptist Church serving on the finance committee, clerk, and diaconate. He was an active member of Harlan Kiwanis Club and Golden K Club. Lyle was past president, board of directors, past treasurer of the club, and served on many committees for the club.
Lyle died at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan on Friday, November 26, 2021 attaining the age of 78 years, 10 months, and 26 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Amy and brother-in-law Dave Force.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Marcia Walker of Harlan, Iowa, son Jeremy Walker of Harlan, Iowa; siblings Dee Brandt (Gary) of Harlan, Iowa; Donna Burdick (Jim) of Harlan, Iowa; LaVonne Force of Harlan, Iowa; Linda Hielen (Dennis) of Shenandoah, Iowa; Mary McCumber (Rodney) of Newton, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
