Margaret M. Feldman, daughter of Andrew and Eleonor (Hoffmann) Honz, was born August 17, 1922 in Dunlap, Iowa. She was baptized in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dunlap. Margaret received her First Holy Communion and was confirmed in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Panama, Iowa. She also attended St. Mary’s for Grade School and High School.

Margaret graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1940 and continued her education by attending Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kansas. She started her teaching career in a one-room country school, where she taught for three years. Margaret began teaching at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Panama in September 1965 and retired in 1984. She continued to substitute teach at the area schools until 2004. Margaret also taught summer school for many years.

On September 14, 1944, Margaret married Raymond Feldman at St. Mary’s in Panama, and to this union, four children were born: Joan, Allan, William, and Paul. The family farmed in the Portsmouth area for five years before moving to a farm in Panama until retirement in 1976. They then moved to Harlan, Iowa. Raymond and Margaret celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2010.

Margaret’s faith, family, and friends were very important to her. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Margaret enjoyed cooking, baking (her pecan rolls and brownies were family favorites!), reading, teaching, quilting, and helping others. She was commissioned an “Extra Ordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist” by Bishop Dingman in 1971, and enrolled as a Benedictine Oblate in 1986. Margaret was a substitute catechist for St. Michael’s Faith Formation classes, as well as a member of the St. Michael’s Ladies Guild.

Margaret went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2017, attaining the age of 95 years, 3 months, and 26 days. She had been a resident of Elm Crest Senior Living Community since 2007. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Feldman; sons, Allan and Paul Feldman; grandson, Steven Gaul; sisters, Sr. Norma Honz and Lucille Mickels; and brother, Andrew “Bud” Honz.
