Mark Alan McCutcheon was born on May 10, 1954 to Dr. Robert E. and Doris (Herzog) McCutcheon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He attended Atlantic High School in Atlantic, Iowa, and graduated with the Class of 1972. He went on to attend Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, while working in the construction business.



On September 28, 1980, Mark was united in marriage to Sharol Schlueter. To this union, three children were born: Aaron, Seth, and Ashley.



In 1982, he graduated at the top of his class from the Gemologist Institute of America in Santa Monica, California, as a certified licensed gemologist. A year later, the family moved to Harlan, Iowa, where Mark opened and operated his own jewelry store for several years.



Mark enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles and in general, liked working with his hands. He enjoyed sharing his expertise and teaching his skills to his children. He was a creative builder and loved to try new things. He was a great cook, canned dill pickles, and came up with his own barbeque sauce which he named “Cloudy’s Barbeque Sauce - Clearly the Best”. He was also a huge fan of Harley Davidson motorcycles.



Because of his declining health, he recently retired. Mark went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the age of sixty years, eleven months, and one day. He was preceded in death by his parents.



He is survived by his children: Aaron McCutcheon, Seth McCutcheon (Shanae Hytrek), and Ashley McCutcheon all of Harlan, Iowa; two grandchildren: Madyson and Avarissa; sisters Patti and her husband Tom Knop of Aurora, Colorado and Terri and her husband Darrell Jones of Chandler, Arizona; brother Pastor Monte McCutcheon and his wife Dawn of Oregon City, Oregon; other family members and many friends.
