Patricia "Pat" Louise Pedersen was born on September 20, 1939 to John and Stella (Coulter) Kemen in Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended high school at DuBose Academy in Zellwood, Florida. After high school, she received her nursing degree from the Swedish Covenant Nursing School in Chicago, Illinois and became a registered nurse.
On November 24, 1960 Pat was united in marriage to David Pedersen in the chapel at Irving Park Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois. Three children were born to this union: Philip, Amy, and Andrea.
Pat was a dedicated nurse and homemaker. She enjoyed direct involvement in family business. She was involved with many community service clubs such as the Iowa Board of Health, P.E.O., Myrtue Memorial Health Foundation, the Republican Party, Meals on Wheels, BYF, and Literary Club. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and Sunday school teacher. She was very active in the First Baptist Church and a member since 1972.
Pat was passionate about religion, helping people, and politics. Her optimistic attitude guided her in all her endeavors. She enjoyed reading, decorating her home, gardening, and traveling and she participated in many mission trips around the world.
Pat died on Friday, April 8, 2011 at her home in Harlan, Iowa having attained the age of seventy-one years, six months, and nineteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Eileen Butz.
She is survived by her husband of fifty years, David Pedersen of Harlan, Iowa; her children: Philip Pedersen and his wife Julie of Okoboji, Iowa, Amy Keast and her husband Steve of Harlan, and Andrea Jordan and her husband Chris of Lake Oswego, Oregon; seven grandchildren; other family members and friends.
Pastor Dan Hawn officiated the 11:00 AM funeral service on Monday, April 11, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Harlan, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Steve Keast, Chris Jordan, Matt Jordan, Josh Pedersen, Madison Keast, Danielle Pedersen, and Rachel Jordan. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery.
