Randy Howard Lund

Randy Howard Lund, son of Howard and Betty (Nielsen) Lund was born on May 18, 1954 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and died December 15, 2017 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 63 years.
During his early life, he attended Minden and Elk Horn Community Schools before graduating from Shelby Tennant High School in 1972. He was united in marriage to Barbara (Hall) Lund on August 17, 1974 at the Shelby United Methodist Church. To this union, 4 boys were born: Michael, Matthew, Jesse and Jacob.
During high school Randy played football and sang in the high school choir. On May 5, 1968, Randy was confirmed at the Minden Church.
A man who maintained an amazing work ethic, started work at the Shelby Elevator. From there, Randy worked at Avoca Implement and then to Delta Asphalt, out of Crescent, Iowa. In 1988, Randy went to work for the Iowa DOT in Avoca. He worked here for 29 years until his retirement in November of 2017.
During his years while working for the DOT he was also a longtime Pioneer seed dealer. He had taken that business over from his dad. It not only kept him and his boys busy, but also led to many lifelong friendships. Randy was also an avid gun enthusiast and had quite the gun collection. The pride of his collection were his .410's, which he had over 20 of them.
Randy was also known as quite the wheeler and dealer. At his last count, about 7 years ago, he had owned over 100 vehicles. There were days when he would leave for work in one vehicle and come home in another. He knew the make and model of every vehicle and could identify them from a half mile away. He would also say “I had one of them except it was a different color!” He did say the one he wished he could have back was his blue ‘68 Plymouth Roadrunner.
Preceding Randy in death are his parents, Howard and Betty (Nielsen) Lund. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Barbara Lund; his children Michael (Bobbi) Lund of Avoca, Iowa; Matthew (Kristen) Lund of Shelby, Iowa; Jesse Lund of Shelby, Iowa; Jacob (Allisha Anderson) Lund of Omaha, Nebraska. Sister Cheryl (Terry) Overgaard of Minden, Iowa. Grandchildren Christian; Brayden; Tyler; Henry; Kayla; Andrew; Livienne; Samuel; Finley.
