Robert (Bob) Allen Myers, son of Robert C. Myers and Martha Arp Petersen was born in Council Bluffs, IA on January 12, 1939. He was raised on a farm near Corley with his sister, Darla. He graduated from Tennant in 1957. Bob was an excellent basketball player and was named to the All Shelby County Team in 1957. He attended Morningside College in Sioux City for one year after which, he began farming due to the death of his father.
Bob moved to Jacksonville where he met his future wide, Bonnie Hansen. They were married on October 28, 1961. Bob and Bonnie were married for 61 years. He was drafted into the US Army that December. After basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado, he and Bonnie spent the rest of his service career at Fort Hood, Texas until his discharge in Dec. 1963. Bob achieved the rank of PFC as an infantryman with the First Armored Division. He was so proud of being a veteran and loved his country. His daughters Laurie and Susan were born in Texas. The family moved to a farm north of Shelby in 1965 where their sons Charles and Steven and daughter Brenda were born. They lived there for 17 years. After working various jobs, Bob retired from Loziers in Omaha in 2005.
Bob loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as, birds, squirrels, strong coffee, apple pie (or any pie), Tootsie Roll Pops, gardening, cooking (he was a great cook), watching college football, and dancing with Bonnie to “In the Mood”.
Bob and Bonnie took many vacations together and with their family. They also spent a lot of time at their cabin in Seeley Lake, Montana. He didn’t especially care for scenery, but enjoyed historical sites. If Bob had a hobby besides feeding and watching birds and critters, it was watching the Weather Channel where he could “out forecast” the experts most of the time.
Bob so enjoyed his retirement. He loved taking a nap with his beloved cat, Puddy, after which he and Bonnie would have coffee and do lots of “visiting”. He was a caring, loving man of few words, but when he spoke you knew how deep his thoughts were. However, he often had a “smirk” on his face and you wondered what orneriness he was thinking about in his head.
Robert passed away suddenly on December 3, 2022, of a heart attack with Bonnie by his side, “till death do you part”. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Raymond Petersen, mother and father-in-law, Leota and Edward Hansen. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children Laurie (Shane) Hoepner, Susan (David) Hulsebus, Charles (Jody) Myers, Steven (Natalie Rehm) Myers, Brenda Boyle; sister Darla (Homer) Buell, 14 grandchildren; 8 step-great grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other family members and many friends.
