Agnes M. Wageman Goetzinger, daughter of Charles and Barbara (Schechinger) Wageman, was born January 2, 1926 in Westphalia, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia. She attended grade school and high school at St. Boniface Catholic School, where she graduated with the class of 1943.
On January 11, 1945, Agnes was united in marriage to Edward P. Goetzinger at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia. Five children were born to this union: Charles, Marilyn, Anna Mae, Bill, and Larry. Agnes helped Edward on the farm doing chores, milking cows and tending to her garden. She also did the bookkeeping for Goetzinger Trucking for over 25 years. From 1961 to 1963, she managed the Westphalia Club House and again later in 1967 to 1969. She was a long time member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Westphalia Altar Society and Senior Citizen Club of Westphalia.
Agnes was an avid reader and enjoyed watching birds, her favorites were the gold finch and cardinals. She was a loving mother and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Agnes died surrounded by her loving family at the Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa on Saturday, September 30, 2017, attaining the age of ninety-one years, eight months and twenty-eight days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward Goetzinger, son Charles Goetzinger, daughter-in-law Lois Goetzinger, granddaughter Brenda Zimmerman, siblings Tony Wageman, Sr. Mary Ruth Wageman, Katherine Wageman, Ann Friel, Cecilia Weihs, Charles Wageman, John Wageman, Adeline Altman, Augusta Wageman, William Wageman and Frank Wageman.
She has left to cherish her memory, her children Anna Mae and her husband Dale Gross of Harlan, Iowa; Marilyn and her husband Ron Zimmerman of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Bill Goetzinger of Westphalia, Iowa; Larry Goetzinger and his wife Julie of Westphalia, Iowa; daughter-in-law Jane Goetzinger of Westphalia, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; sisters Theresa Henscheid of Harlan, Iowa; Sr. Joan Wageman of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
