Agnes Monica Larsen was born on March 5, 1927 to John and Mamie (Ulrich) Muell in Panama, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Panama and attended grade school at St. Mary’s Catholic School. She attended school in Portsmouth before graduating from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Neola, Iowa.
Agnes was united in marriage to Darrel Larsen on September 8, 1947 at the Catholic School in Portsmouth because the church had been destroyed by a tornado. They became parents to eight children: William, James, John, Susan, Julia, Michael, Sharon, and Jane.
Agnes’ main occupation was being a homemaker raising her children and later she worked as a waitress at Mickel’s Restaurant. The family loved to go camping when the kids were younger. As they got older and had children of their own, Agnes enjoyed going to their athletic events and activities.
Agnes died on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-eight years, six months, and seventeen days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Michael, daughter-in-law Joyce Larsen and grandsons Benji Larsen and Jaden Koch.
She is survived by her children: William Larsen and his wife Janet of Brandon, South Dakota, James Larsen and his wife Joanne of Ankeny, Iowa, John “Jack” Larsen and his wife Patricia of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Susan and her husband Kenneth Schnack of Harlan, Iowa, Julia and her husband Randall Schmitz of Bettendorf, Iowa, Sharon and her husband David Lush and Jane and her husband Jack Waner all of Omaha, Nebraska; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; other family members and friends.
