Alexis Collins Martin

Alexis Nichole Collins was born on January 13, 1994, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Jacob Collins and Lynnette Hunt. She was raised in Elk Horn, Iowa where she attended school and later graduated in 2012. From a young age, Alexis was full of life and energy. She was outgoing, adventurous, and had a contagious spirit that drew people to her. While she was still in school , she enjoyed playing as a catcher for the EH-K softball team. She also loved spending time with her friends, going on trips to Adventureland, going on camping trips, and fishing with her dad and friends. She shared a special bond with her father, cherishing their weekly Friday night date nights. No matter what, she always found comfort in his presence, and nothing comforted her more when she didn’t feel well quite like falling asleep on his shoulder.

After high school, Alexis pursued her dream of helping others by attending Des Moines Area Community College, where she earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. She had a natural gift for care giving, showing kindness and empathy to everyone she encountered. Whether on or off the clock, she was always willing to lend a helping hand. Over the years, she dedicated herself to her work at several healthcare facilities, including the Rest Home in Ankeny, Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Elm Crest Assisted Living Community, Hansen House in Council Bluffs, and lastly Hansen House in Harlan, Iowa.

Alexis’s greatest joy in life was becoming a mother. Her two beautiful daughters and two handsome sons were the light of her life. She was a devoted and loving mother, always putting her children first. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she found even more joy in it when she could share it with her kids. She often took them with her when visiting her nursing home residents, teaching them the importance of kindness and giving.

Alexis’s life was cut short on Thursday, March 6, 2025 attaining the age of 31 years, 1 month, and 21 days. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Russell and Bonnie Collins.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including her children, Sophia Martin, Brooklyn Martin, Josten Andersen and Dominic Plagmann; father, Jacob (Jennie) Collins of Stuart, IA; mother, Lynette Hunt; half-siblings, Andrew (Harley) Barlow of Council Bluffs, IA and Amber (Justin) Norris of New Mexico; other relatives and many friends.
