Alfred Lynn Olson, son of Ernest and Grace (Adams) Olson, was born on March 24, 1926 on the family farm near Kirkman, Iowa. Alfred was baptized and confirmed at the Kirkman United Methodist Church and he attended school in Kirkman.
Alfred left school early so he could help on the family farm. Alfred then later joined the United States Army Air Corp where he served his country for two years. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm in Iowa. Alfred was united in marriage to Donna Jean Smit. Alfred then reenlisted into the Army Air Force Reserves where he served another two years with most of his time spent at Offutt Air Base in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Alfred once again returned to the family farm near Kirkman before moving to Harlan, Iowa where they raised their four children: Deb, A. Lee, Lori and Dale. He spent the remainder of his life operating heavy machinery for various road construction companies throughout the Midwest. Alfred and Donna divorced and Alfred continued to make his home in Harlan.
Alfred remained at his home in Harlan after his retirement until 2016 when he had a short stay at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. Alfred died at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan on December 25, 2016 having attained the age of ninety-years, nine months and one day. In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by his daughter Lori Olson and siblings, Arlene Blackburn, Betty Erickson, Barbara McLaren, Lucille Olson and Norma Jean Olson.
He is survived by his children: Deb Olson-Pehling; A. Lee Olson and his wife Lani both of Lake Havasu City, Arizona and Dale Olson of Tucson, Arizona; eight grandchildren: Ryan, Benjamin and Jordan Pehling and Amber, Mekayla, Christian, Ashley and Dalton Olson; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings Edwin Olson of Harlan; Jane Fuller of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Marilyn Meier of Lancaster, California; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
