Alice Margery Cose was born October 16, 1927, to John and Louise Haefner of Arthur, Iowa. She attended grade school and high school in Arthur. As Valedictorian, she was awarded a small scholarship to Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. Alice went to Buena Vista College for two years and was graduated at the top of her class. She began teaching in Nemaha, Iowa. Alice also taught at Arthur, Storm Lake, Schleswig, Deloit and Denison, all in Iowa. Later on she returned to Buena Vista College and received her B.A. degree and was graduated summa cum laude in 1965. She taught a total of 42 years, teaching grades K-9 and high school vocal music. Alice retired in 1989. In the summer of 1950, Alice met Leonard Cose. Alice was united in marriage to Leonard May 23, 1952, upon his return from Korea. To this union was born a daughter, Vicki Sue. Alice and Leonard were privileged to celebrate their 53rd anniversary May 23, 2005. Alice was confirmed in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Arthur and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denison. Alice was a member of Eastern Star and was installed as Worthy Matron in 1975. Her dedication to education was noted through her membership in DEA, ISEA, and the NEA life membership. In her spare time Alice loved to read, travel and be with family. Alice died Thursday, December 28, 2006, at the Denison Care Center. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 79 years, 2 months and 11 days. Including her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, three brothers, Ray, Floyd and Roy and one sister, Ruth. Those remaining to cherish her memory include daughter Vicki and husband, Donald (Brad) Kingsbury of Blencoe, Iowa, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2006, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Alberta Ervin officiating. Music for the service included soloist Renae Claussen singing "On Eagles Wings" with Nancy Miles serving as organist and a recorded selection of "Open Arms" by Journey. Honorary pallbearers included Jim Harms, Bill Wright, Steve Slater, Wayne Rydberg and Jerry Peterman. Pallbearers were Brad Nelson, Jeff Nelson, Brett Gehlsen, Denny Neppl, Ron Cose and Bob Melby. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens, Denison, Iowa. Following the interment the family invited all in attendance to join them at Cronks in Denison for a meal and time of fellowship. 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Pfannebecker Funeral Home, Denison, Iowa. Interment will be at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens, Denison, Iowa.
