DeWitt Holmes. She received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism in Carroll on July 27, 1926, and was confirmed in her Christian Faith April 11, 1954, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, Iowa. Aloha was raised near Manilla and received her early education in the rural school near Astor before graduating from the Manilla High School with the class of 1944. Following high school she enrolled at the Iowa Beauty School in Des Moines, Iowa, where she graduated in 1946 with her cosmetology degree. She was then employed as a beautician in Audubon, Iowa, for one year. On August 7, 1949, Aloha was united in marriage with Harvey L. Schrum at the United Methodist Church in Manilla, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three children: Deanna, Dean and Dennis. They made their home in Manilla until 1956 when they moved to Denison, Iowa. Aloha spent her adult married life as a homemaker, lovingly caring for her husband and children. Harvey died April 5, 2008, and following his death, Aloha moved to Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison on April 17, 2008, where she had since resided. In her spare time Aloha enjoyed watching television, working puzzle books and reading. After moving to Eventide she enjoyed all of the activities there, attending exercise class and their Sunday church services. Aloha loved life and struggled to live through her many years on dialysis. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Aloha died late Monday, February 2, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 88 years, 6 months and 13 days. Including her parents and her husband, Aloha was also preceded in death by one son, Dean Schrum and his wife, Rose Mary, and one brother, Howard Holmes and his wife, Maxine. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her daughter, Deanna Schrum, of New Hope, Minnesota; son, Dennis Schrum and daughter-in-law Joetta Brooks, of Spencer, Iowa; grandson, Tim Schrum of Manning, Iowa; sister Marlene Everhart of Tacoma, Washington; 3 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 6, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. David M. Sewing officiating. Music for the service included congregational hymns of “How Great Thou Art”, “Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me” and “The Lamb” with Karen Kahl serving as organist. Pallbearers included: Tim Schrum, Jerry Buller, Gary Keesling, Bob Adams, Merle Holmes and Keith Behrendt. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens, Denison, Iowa. Following the interment all were invited to return to the church and join the family for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the Zion Ladies Aid. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com , Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements where a visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2015.
