Alvie D. Chipman
December 2, 1912 — April 1, 2010
Alvie Donald Chipman was born on December 2, 1912, to Alvie and Nellie (Mowery) Chipman in Tennant, Iowa.
Alvie attended school in Tennant, Iowa, but left school in his junior year to help with work. He worked as a hired man for several different farmers in the area.
He was united in marriage to Lois Killion on his 29th birthday at his mother’s home in Shelby, Iowa. Alvie and Lois lived on a farm south of Avoca while he worked as a hired hand, then started on their own on a farm west of Oakland. After three years, they moved back to their original home south of Avoca farming on their own and lived there until 1969. They moved to a farm south of Jacksonville and lived there until 1979. They retired to Walnut, Iowa.
Alvie enjoyed going fishing every chance he could and both Alvie and Lois loved to dance every week and even more often if they could.
After Lois passed away on April 1, 2003, Alvie lived in the same home until the summer of 2004 when he moved to Peace Haven in Walnut. When his health started to fail, he entered the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in July of 2008. It was there that he died on Thursday, April 1, 2010, exactly seven years after his wife. He had attained the age of ninety-seven years, three months, and thirty days.
Alvie was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his parents, and his brothers: Darwin and Millard.
He is survived by his daughter Linda and her husband Robert Holst of Walnut, Iowa; his son Ron Chipman of Harlan, Iowa; three grandchildren: Lori and Andy Blum of Marne, Iowa, Jim and Lisa Wissler of Wall Lake, Iowa, and Donnita Senn of Fort Worth, Texas; seven great-grandchildren: Holli, Steve, and Scott Blum, Joel, Justin, and Jared Wissler, and Cody Webb; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
Pastor Orris Drake officiated the 10:30 AM funeral service on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Holli Blum, Steven Blum, Scott Blum, Joel Wissler, Justin Wissler, and Jared Wissler. Interment was held at Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut, Iowa
