Alvin L. Wiese, son of Albert and Lillie Pagel Wiese, was born December 13, 1926 in Scott County, Iowa. He passed away March 22, 2008 at the age of 81 years at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt, Iowa. He received his education in the Hickory Grove Township rural schools and grew up on the family farm near Walcott. Alvin served his country during the WWII period in the Army Air Corps, as a radio operator in China, and later with the Occupation Troops in Japan. He received his honorable discharge in December of 1946 and then enlisted for three years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was a long time member of the Deloit American Legion Post 690 and had served several terms as Commander. On June 25, 1949, Alvin was united in marriage with LaDonna M. Schrum, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. In November of that same year they purchased a farm in Milford Township, north of Denison. They were blessed with the birth of four children. They spent their entire married lives there until moving to Oakwood Manor in Denison in October, 2004, due to his failing health. Alvin was an avid outdoorsman, a hunter, and a trapper since childhood. He enjoyed roaming their fields, creeks and woods looking for Indian Artifacts, morel mushrooms,, and animal dens. He had a large collection of Indian arrowheads, tomahawks, and stone tools which he gave away to family and friends. Alvin and LaDonna were very proud of their herd of Guernsey dairy cows which they had for many years. Alvin was an avid reader, loved to play cards with family and friends, writing poetry, and enjoyed listening to polka and country music. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lester and A. Tony Wiese, both of Walcott and a sister, Helen McFarland of Davenport. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, LaDonna, four children and their spouses, Allen Wiese and special friend, Diane Bade of Fremont, NE, Ardyth Buller and husband, Jerry of Kiron, IA, Vicki Zimmer and husband, Frank of Deloit, IA and Sherry Kohnekamp and special friend, Dennis Fink of Deloit, IA, seven grandchildren, Christy McFadden and husband, Josh of Minneapolis, MN, Jason Kohnekamp and fiance? Christine Bartek of Omaha, NE, Heidi Buller of Phoenix, AZ, Jessica Knutson and husband, Jason of Richfield, MN, Jeremy Kohnekamp and wife, Launie of Roy, UT, Nick Buller and wife, Joanie of Slater, IA, and Sarah Zimmer of Phoenix, AZ, three great grandchildren, Isaac Buller, Laney Knutson and Jayden Kohnekamp, sister-in-law, Joanne Wiese of Walcott, IA and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison with the Rev. Mark Hansen officiating. Music for the service included recorded selections of "Tell Me About The Good Old Days", "The Lord Made Him A Farmer", "Daddy?s Hands", Softly and Tenderly", " Wind Beneath My Wings", "How Great Thou Art" and "The Wild Blue Yonder". Honorary Pallbearers included Duane Wegner, Leo and Darlene Willenborg and Duane and Janice Neppl. Pallbearers were Christy and Josh MdFadden, Jason Kohnekamp and Christine Bartek, Heidi Buller, Sarah Zimmer, Jessica and Jason Knutson, Jeremy and Launie Kohnekamp and Nick and Joanie Buller. Military Honors were provided by the American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Following the services the family invited all in attendance to join them for a luncheon at Oakwood Manor in Denison.
