Alyce Ann Rasmussen
Alyce Ann Goetz was born on September 17, 1929 to Al Goetz and Cecilia (Weihs) Goetz in Panama, Iowa. She was baptized at the Panama Catholic Church where she also attended school through the eighth grade. Alyce was a very adventurous young women who decided at the age of thirteen she was old enough to start a new chapter of her life. She was never afraid of hard work which included finding work in the area, detassling corn, babysitting or waitressing.
At the age of sixteen she began working at the famous “Chicken Hut” in Harlan, Iowa, where she met her soulmate, Anker Rasmussen. He was home on leave when they met and instantly fell in love. They were married on November 26, 1945. Shortly after they bought a home in Harlan, Iowa and began their life together. They became parents to three children: Cheri, Barb and Rick.
Through the years of waitressing she was able to buy the famous Harlan House Coffee Shop. She was well known for her famous pies and homemade meals. She also served her community with 35 years of running the food department for the bloodmobile. She enjoyed the people and the many friends she made along the way. Her and Anker purchased a lake home at Lake View, Iowa, which they enjoyed for 18 years with their family and friends. Many great memories were made there. Her greatest enjoyment was the times spent with her grandchildren and spoiling them every minute she had the opportunity to do so. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. We always called her a very “classy lady”. She recently became a great-great grandmother which was quite an achievement for her.
