Angela Gaul, daughter of Aloysius Louis F. and Evelyn (Graves) Schmid was born November 16, 1915 near Battle Creek, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Tilden, Nebraska. She attended school in the Tilden area.
Angela met Cyril Gaul through her long-time penpal and Cyril’s sister, Valerie. They were united in marriage on January 10, 1940 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Tilden, Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. Gaul began farming on the old Gaul place near Earling in March of 1940. Angela became a member of St. Joseph’s Parish. She was a Catholic Daughter and was active in the women’s organizations. Cyril and Angela became parents to two sons, Garry and Jim and one daughter, Claudia; they were also foster parents to many children. Angela also helped with the education of her younger siblings.
After Cyril’s death in January of 1997, Angela remained at home in Earling and was active in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren. She had a love for music, playing cards and working on crossword puzzles.
In June of 2010, Angela went to live at the Little Flower Haven where she died on December 27, 2016, attaining the age of one hundred and one years, one month and eleven days. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Garry Gaul, daughter-in-law Grace Gaul; and sister Regina Schmid.
She is survived by her children Claudia Connolly of Omaha, Nebraska; Jim Gaul and his wife Janice of Earling, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; her siblings Joseph Schmid of Las Vegas, Nevada; Mary Schelle of Glidden, Iowa; Jerome Schmid of Santa Monica, California; Ramona Kaufman of Portsmouth, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
