Anna Marie Rueschenberg daughter of August and Mary Frances (Kaufmann) Hastert was born January 20, 1927, in Westphalia. Her parents met while working as hired hands for Charles and Barbara Wageman. Anna was born on the John Wageman homestead. She was baptized in Westphalia, moved as an infant to the Engle farm her parents purchased in Panama, and was confirmed in Panama. She was a member of the St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama until she was 26 years old and then the remainder of her life a member at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia.
Anna attended school in Panama through the 8th grade. She then went back to helping on the family farm until she got married. She even milked cows on the morning of her wedding.

Anna worked hard raising her children and selling eggs to Mickels and many others. She loved her vegetable gardening and she canned everything she could get her hands on. She did her washing with her Maytag wringer washer, using her homemade lye soap.
She was full of faith. She would bake chocolate chip cookies and pack them in a coffee can and send to her baby brother when he was stationed in Vietnam and prayed for his safe return. All her brothers and brothers-in-law served in the military.
Anna loved gardening, baking, Polka dancing. baby animals, going to grandchildrens activities, and helping Delbert on the farm. She also enjoyed Bingo at the Parish Picnics and doing puzzles. Every day of the week you could find a grandchild at the farm with her.
