Arletta Jean Larsen was born on May 2, 1936 to Marvin and Dorothy (Timm) Schlicht in Harlan, Iowa. She attended school in Avoca and Walnut before her family moved to Hamburg. She finished her education graduating from Walnut High School with the Class of 1955.

She took a job with Blue Star Foods in Atlantic, Iowa before her marriage to Eugene Larsen on December 18, 1955. The couple had four children: Ronda, Brenda, Linda, and Rod. Arletta stayed home and raised her children until they were older when she took her love of flowers and creativity and opened Jean’s Flower Shop. She also enjoyed gardening and did lots of canning and freezing of the things she grew.

Arletta was a very faithful woman who showed her love for the Lord by doing mission work with the Ladies Missionary Circle, teaching Sunday School and Bible School, and by the way she cared for others. She was a very giving person and would take meals to those who were working nearby.

Arletta was admitted to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, where she died on Sunday, October 27, 2013, having attained the age of seventy-seven years, five months, and twenty-five days. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of nearly fifty-eight years, Eugene Larsen of Kirkman, Iowa; daughters: Ronda Long of Des Moines, Iowa, Brenda and her husband Tim Kustka of Billings, Montana, and Linda and her husband Larry Ohlinger of Harlan, Iowa; son Rod Larsen of Kirkman, Iowa; six grandchildren: Angela Harvey, Jenny Long, Alisha, Ashley, Allison, and Amy Kustka; sisters Janice and her husband John Montony of Meridian, Idaho and Judy Schlicht and her friend Dave Warner of Des Moines, Iowa, brother Jerry Schlicht of Elliott, Iowa; other family members and many friends.

Pastor Paul Reynolds officiated the 11:00 AM funeral service on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Elk Horn, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were Becky Marquardt, Sue Kroeker, Rhea Leete, Mary Nelson, Sharon Paul, Joyce Petersen, and Marcie Wetzel. Serving as casket bearers were Randy Nelson, Curt Sorensen, Michael Cain, Steven Larsen, Paul Nelson, and Randy Leete. Interment was at Merrill’s Grove Cemetery in Fiscus, Iowa.
