Arnold LeRoy "Les" Brehmer was born on September 24, 1935, to Emil and Lillie (Christiansen) Brehmer, in Atlantic, Iowa. He was baptized at Peace Evangelical Church, went to grade school south of Walnut at a country school and then graduated from Walnut High School in 1953. Les was united in marriage to Georgia Ozment in Golden, Colorado.
Les' love of motorcycles started early in his life. His graduation gift from his parents was his first Harley Davidson. They sent him on the train to Milwaukee to see it come off the line where he rode it back home to Walnut, IA. From here on out, Les always had a motorcycle and rode often. His favorite rides were with his wife, Georgia, where they each rode their bikes and enjoyed life together.
Les was a master craftsman auto-body man and mentored many young men in his career. In his earlier years he was also a bricklayer and a homebuilder. He retired from Rhoden Auto Center in Council Bluffs, IA in March of 2002. Les and Georgia loved living on their farm; gardening and canning items to share with family and friends. Merium, the farm cat, would hitch a ride on Les' shoulder as he worked around the farm.
You could often find Les and Georgia camping in their motorhome, fishing off their pontoon boat and enjoying a cold beer together. He and Georgia enjoyed rafting at Wind River Canyon in Wyoming as well as rafting in Colorado. They took two cruises with their children and grandchildren which created great memories to reminisce about. Every September, upwards of fifty of Les' family and friends would gather at the Brehmer farm to celebrate Les' birthday. Many would bring their fifthwheels and motorhomes to camp out and enjoy the time together.
Les left a huge impact on everyone and will stay in our hearts forever. Les passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, in Avoca having attained the age of 86 years, 11 months and 25 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Emil and Lillie Brehmer and his daughter, Pamela K. Burton.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Georgia Brehmer of Walnut, Iowa; children Lorie (Joe) Evanoff of Henderson, Colorado; Pam (Keith) Matteson of Brighton, Colorado; Chris (Debbie Sue) Brehmer of Brighton, Colorado; Casey (Jennifer) Brehmer of Lakewood, Colorado; Brad (Stephanie) Waterland of Windsor, Colorado; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends.
