Avis Marie Peters was born on May 9, 1924, to Lloyd and Marie (Carter) Odem in Atlantic, Iowa. She attended school at Atlantic High School and graduated with the class of 1942. She went on to teach country school in Cass and Pottawattamie Counties for four years before she was married.
Avis Marie was united in marriage to Lloyd Plahn Peters on December 1, 1946, in Atlantic. From this union they were blessed to be the parents of Dwight and Annette. They farmed south of Walnut, Iowa, for nineteen years and then moved to Avoca, Iowa in 1966. She and Lloyd were members of United Church of Avoca where Avis Marie was a deacon, taught Sunday School and was the church janitor.
In her spare time, when living on the farm, she joined Lloyd as a 4-H leader before starting a family. Additionally, she enjoyed cross-stitching, crocheting, sewing, gardening and canning. She loved being available for her family and was a true homemaker.
Avis Marie died Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic, having attained the age of ninety-two years, eight months, and five days. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Avis Marie is survived by her son Dwight Peters and his wife Terese of Ames, Iowa; daughter Annette and her husband Randall Hendrickson of Stafford, Virginia; granddaughter Jennifer Hendrickson of Alexandria, Virginia; grandson John Hendrickson of Charlotte, North Carolina; brother LeRoy Odem of LaMotte, Iowa; nieces, nephews and many friends.
