Bernard Hansen

Bernard Russell Hansen, the son of Russell and Lillian (Blakely) Hansen, was born on May 12, 1936 in Harlan, Iowa. He attended high school in Tennant, Iowa. After graduation he went on to farm.
On April 14, 1957, Bernard was united into marriage to Elizabeth Allerton at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Council Bluffs. To this union, five children were born: Susan, Dean, Sharon, David and Sandra. After marriage, the couple resided on their farm near Portsmouth, Iowa.
Bud enjoyed gardening, cooking, spending time with his family and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan. He was known to have an abundance of vegetables during the summertime in his garden, and his family would often reap the benefits of his love for gardening through the wonderful meals he would cook. His family was the root of his life and any spare time would be spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bud passed away at the Griswold Care Center on Thursday, November 8, 2018, having attained the age of eighty-two years, five months and twenty-seven days. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Hansen, parents Russell and Lillian Hansen and grandchild Gregory Petersen. He is survived by his children Susan (Andy) Austin of Omaha, NE; Dean (Lori) Hansen of Avoca, IA; Sharon (Kalvin) Petersen of Alta, IA; David (Annette) Hansen of Muskogee, OK; Sandy (Mike) Davis of Hanford, CA; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters Madeline (Kane) Bordner of Columbus, NE; Carol (Larry) Schnack of Eau Claire, WI; Judy (Dave) Robinson of Shelby, IA; nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
