Bettie Lorraine Anderson was born on August 10, 1930 to Leo and Anna (Kane) Duffy in Fairbank, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank. She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and graduated as class valedictorian with the Class of 1948.



After high school, she began working in Waterloo, Iowa, where she met LaRue Anderson. They were married on February 18, 1950 and became parents to eleven children: Lorraine (Lorrie), Cindy, Kent, Kristine, Carmen, Patricia, Barbara, Warren, Beverly, Christopher, and Aaron.



The family moved throughout the Midwest, living wherever LaRue was working road construction with Western Engineering. In 1954, they settled in Harlan, Iowa. Three years later, they moved to Shelby, Iowa, and moved back to Harlan in 1986 where they remained.



After her husband’s death in 1990, Bettie remained active in the Harlan community and in 1999, was honored as Shelby County Mother of the Year.



In May of 2014, Bettie became a resident of the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center in Avoca, Iowa. She died at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 having attained the age of eighty-three years, eleven months, and nineteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Christopher, brothers Warren and Jack, and sister, Sr. Mary Carol.



She is survived by her children: Lorrie Anderson and her husband Joseph Hardy of Des Moines, Iowa, Cindy and her husband Don Hansen of Avoca, Iowa, Kent Anderson and his wife Chris of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Kristine and her husband Bud Miller of Harlan, Iowa, Carmen and her husband Bill Hosack of Harlan, Iowa, Patricia and her husband Alan Heisterkamp of Sioux City, Iowa, Barbara Anderson and her husband Dale Chell of Des Moines, Iowa, Warren Anderson and his wife Jill of Norwalk, Iowa, Beverly and her husband Peter Lohr of Sioux City, Iowa, and Aaron Anderson and his wife Kari of Treynor, Iowa; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters Gladys DeTimmerman Mahoney of Oelwein, Iowa, Kaye Nelson of Rockford, Illinois, and Audrey and her husband Richard Selander of Birmingham, Michigan; sister-in-law Dorothy Duffy of Fairbank, Iowa; other family members and friends.
