Beverly Jean Tolle
June 29, 1933 — July 7, 2024
Beverly Jean Tolle was born on a farm near Redline on June 29, 1933, to Dallas and Elma (Petersen) Dent. She attended school at Polk No. 5 schoolhouse. As a young girl she worked for many families when they had new babies. She graduated from Harlan High School in 1950. After graduation, she worked as a nurse aide at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.
In 1953, Beverly married Edward “Mike” Tolle and after two months he entered the service for the Korean War. Then she worked as an aide at the Bisgard hospital in Harlan until Mike returned from Korea and they started farming. Mike and Beverly became parents of two children, Brian in 1956 and Brenda in 1960. Beverly loved the outdoors and working side by side with her husband on the farm until he passed away in 1991. They loved to fish and took many trips to Minnesota and Canada.
After Mike passed, Beverly started working at Baptist nursing home, now Elm Crest, for six years before retiring. Afterwards, she did some traveling with her sisters-in-law, Bobby, Marjorie and Hazel. She liked to garden, put together puzzles, play games on the computer, bird watching, and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was a lifelong member of the Redline Church of Christ. Beverly lived in her own home on the farm until November 2023 when she moved to the Hansen House assisted living in Harlan, Iowa.
Beverly passed away on Sunday July 7, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Elma, husband, Edward “Mike” Tolle, infant sister, Colleen, and brother, Darrell.
Survivors include her children, Brian (Linda) Tolle of Ogden, IA; Brenda (Kevin) Fries of Harlan, IA; sister-in-law, Roberta “Bobby” Nee of Avoca, IA; 7 grandchildren: Jenifer (Keith) Hill of Council Bluffs, IA, Nathan (Ashley) Tolle of Omaha, NE, Heather (Brandon) Williams of Council Bluffs, IA, Lyndsey (Zach) Sears of Ankeny, IA, Kara (Nathan) Birus of Grimes, IA, Allen Fries of Harlan, IA, and Aimie Fries of Harlan, IA; 6 great grandchildren: Terrance, Abigail, Johnathan, Melissa, Amerah, Elliot; 1 great-great grandchild Macklin; other family members and friends.
