Bonnie K. Axland

Bonnie Kaye Axland, daughter of Frank and Margaret (Gaer) West, was born November 18, 1941 in Kirkman, Iowa. She was confirmed at United Methodist Church in Irwin, Iowa. She attended school in Irwin, where she graduated from I-K-M High School.
On August 9, 1959, Bonnie was united in marriage to Larry Axland at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Irwin. Four children were born to this union Lance, Carmen, Tim, and Jill. Bonnie stayed home to raise her children on their farm outside of Manilla. She later worked at the school as a cook and teacher’s aid. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Bonnie and Larry enjoyed trips to Minnesota to relax outdoors and at the lake. Bonnie also like to spend time quilting. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family being a wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma.
Bonnie died surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa, attaining the age of seventy-seven years. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years Larry Axland of Manilla, Iowa; children Lance Axland of Irwin, Iowa; Carmen and her husband Randy Rasmussen of Jacksonville, Iowa; Tim Axland and his wife Connie of West Des Moines, Iowa; Jill and her husband John Plagman of Corley, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sisters Janis Rasmussen of Irwin; Vicki Larson of Holstein, Iowa; Roxann and her husband Terry Campbell of Sioux City, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
