Bonnie May Collins, the daughter of Joseph and Rieka Fisher Bergantzel, was born on March 18, 1947 in St. Paul, Nebraska. She attended school in Wolbach, Nebraska and Edison School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Because of the death of her mother, Bonnie became a resident of the Christian Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa as a young child. She grew to adulthood in Council Bluffs.
On December 24, 1964 she was united in marriage to Russell Collins in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Three sons and a daughter were born to this union, Rusty, Jake, Jesse and Wendy. While in Council Bluffs, Bonnie became employed by Laidlaw Transit Co. under contract to the Council Bluffs School System. After moving to Shelby County, near Elk Horn, Iowa in 2001, she became employed by Southwest Iowa Transit Co. She enjoyed her job, especially meeting the people that she drove. She was forced to retire in 2007 because of her illness.
Her family was of the utmost importance to her, especially her grandchildren. She loved to spoil them. Working in her yard and decorating her home for all the holidays was very important to her.
Bonnie died at her home with her family around her on Sunday, November 7, 2010 having attained the age of sixty-three years, seven months and twenty days. Preceding her in death were her parents and brother Chuck.
She is survived by her husband Russell of Rural Harlan, her children: Rusty Collins of Saint Joseph, MO, Jake Collins of Harlan, IA, Wendy and her husband Tim Goodman of Council Bluffs, IA and Jesse Collins and his wife Marianne of Harlan, IA; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Additional survivors include her siblings: Mary Price of Magnolia, IA, Ella and her husband Roger Nixon of Crescent, IA and John Bergantzel and his wife Carol of Council Bluffs, IA, other relatives and many friends.
Rev. Al Hazelton officiated the 11:00 AM Memorial Service at First Assembly of God in Harlan, Iowa on Friday, November 12, 2010.
