Bonnie Lee Grote

Bonnie Lee Grote was born to Paul and Janet (Asmus) Nielsen on March 29, 1973 in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended school in Harlan, Iowa. After graduating from Harlan High School, Bonnie attended Iowa Western Community College, where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 2000 and a Registered Nurse (RN) in 2013.
Bonnie found the love of her life when she met Randy Joseph Grote. They were united in marriage on October 5, 1996 at Church of Christ in Harlan, Iowa. To this union, three children were born: Joshua, Sophia, and Anna. Bonnie loved being a wife and mother.
While in high school, Bonnie took on the job of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Elm Crest Senior Living Community in Harlan. She continued to work at Elm Crest as an LPN and RN, with the exception of six months when she went to work for Hospice. In 2017, she took the position as Staff Development / Infection Prevention and Management at Elm Crest.
Her hobbies included, but weren’t limited to: attending bowling league, planting flowers, spending time with her family and pets, reading, and teaching herself how to crochet while battling cancer.
Bonnie dedicated her life to taking care of people. She spent 30 of her short 50 years of life as a Nurse. She changed many peoples lives and put her heart into each and every patient she cared for.
Bonnie Grote passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa on Thursday, September 28, 2023 attaining the age of 50 years, 5 months, and 30 days. She was preceded in death by father-in-law Jerry Grote.
She is survived by her husband Randy Grote; children Joshua Grote, Sophia Grote, and Anna Grote all of Harlan, IA; parents Paul and Janet Nielsen of Harlan, IA; sisters Cindy Hagle of Harlan, IA; Paula Fromm (friend Ron Fallis) of Ankeny, IA; mother-in-law Janis Grote of Harlan, IA; brother-in-law Jamie Grote of Walnut, IA.
