Brett was born November 22, 1989, to ecstatic parents, Glen and Sharon Gubbels where he joined his sister Samantha. He was the love of all our lives, he loved his sister beyond anything else, so much he even dressed in her pink nightgown at times and could be found hanging out in the Barbie house (when he was little of course).
Brett was baptized at St. Boniface church, started his school career at Shelby County Catholic School in Panama and then Earling where he met and continued to be long life friends with his classmates, many who are still in the area. He finished his high school education at HCS and graduated in 2008. He proceeded to Iowa Western Community College taking construction and then eventually farming classes graduating out of both programs.
Brett was never without something to do. He started mowing lawns for income at a young age, and then spent many years at Schechinger Seed Company before he went to drive for Fred Roane and then eventually deciding to go out on his own. In 2021, he bought his first and only Peterbilt semi and formed Brett Gubbels Trucking. There was no surprise that Brett would love driving, as many would see him driving the lawnmower through the fields as a tot then to a 4-wheeler, the tractors, and his pickup. He just loved to drive.
Brett also loved baseball starting with the Westphalia pee wees, then for the Harlan Cyclone traveling team and eventually Harlan High School. He loved to farm with his dad, hauling and driving the combine.
He loved to hunt deer and coyotes. He loved his niece and nephew and all his friends' little ones. He had a smile and giggle that could melt your heart. He loved to sing, be with his besties, grill especially great wings and bring more food then needed because when he brought food it was gonna be good or he was disappointed. Brett also enjoyed the trips he took with his family to the Ozarks and Emmetsburg as well as the trip he took to Colorado 4-wheeling and was looking forward to many new adventures.
His true love was his semi, and those who knew him well, knew that he loved the drive, he loved adventure, he loved his trucking company. It was rare if his truck had a speck of dirt on it when he left with it in the morning, and everyone recognized the sound of his gray truck rolling down the highway. He shared his life in bits and pieces with you but once you were a trusted friend, you were his friend for life, and he would do anything for you. He had more friends than he ever realized. Those closest to him got the pleasure of witnessing the Brett not everyone knew. Singing his favorite songs, especially "A Good Run of Bad Luck", joking, capturing life in his videos and snaps, and going to concerts with his special friend Haley. Hanging around with a Busch Light in hand in jeans and a sweatshirt is where you'd find him if not in his truck.
Brett is survived by his parents, Glen and Sharon Gubbels, sister Samantha Kruse and her husband Kevin, niece and nephew Quinn and Harrison, and many others that he considered his adopted family who will all miss him dearly.
Brett left this world too soon doing what he loved to do on February 27, 2024, at the young age of 34, joining his grandparents, Norman and Gladys Nieland, Herbert and Lorena Gubbels, cousin Megan Gramowski and uncle Eddie Stephany.
