Byron "Doc" Earl Christensen
December 24, 1946 — June 25, 2022
Byron (Doc) Earl Christensen was born in Jefferson Iowa on 12/24/1946 to Earl (Doc) Christensen and Hazel Gray Christensen, he was the youngest of two sons. He passed away peacefully on 06/25/2022 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE.
He attended grade school at Scranton elementary until 1956, when his family moved to Harlan, IA. Doc attended Laurel school in Harlan through 8th grade, then Wentworth military academy 9th-11th, and completed his senior year at Harlan High School, graduating in the class 1966. After graduation he started working at the REC in Harlan, IA.
Doc’s father was Dr. Christensen, the Harlan Veterinarian. Byron’s older brother Dave and himself would tag along to calls with their father, more often than not it was Dave because Byron wasn’t a fan of the smell of manure. Over the years both boys were nicknamed “Doc”, but it seemed to only “stick” with Byron, giving him the title “Lil Doc” until later years where it was shortened to “Doc”.
He married Isabelle Clark on December 31, 1966, and together they had two children; Debbie and Jason. They later divorced in 1983.
In 1966 Doc joined the Army Reserves, retiring in 2006 as a First Master Sargent.
In 1986 Doc met the love of his life; Linda. They were joined together in marriage on August 11, 2001. Upon this union Doc was fortunate enough to gain three more children, Christie, Cohen and Leslie.
Doc in his downtime enjoyed many of these things; watching old western movies and FOX news. Listening to; Willy Nelson, Merle Haggard, Vince Gill and Alison Krauss. He loved his outdoorsman activities; hunting, fishing and golfing. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
Doc is proceeded in death by his parents; Doc (Earl) & Hazel. Left to cherish his memory; his wife Linda of Harlan, IA; daughter Debbie (Greg)Schilling of Harlan, IA; son Jason Christensen of Portland, OR; daughter Christie Domb Palm Beach Gardens, FL; son Cohen (Cassie) Johnson of Avoca, IA; Leslie (Jeff)Wilson of Omaha, NE; brother Dave (Kathy) Christensen, Harlan, IA. Seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Many other family and friends.
