Byron Glenn Martin was born on April 4, 1944 to G. Keith and Hazel (Tolle) Martin in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He attended Hancock Elementary School and graduated from Avo-Ha High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on August 28, 1969.
Byron married Janice Wendt on April 1, 1968 in Omaha, Nebraska. One son, Gregory, was born to this union. Byron worked in Omaha all his life. He worked for different companies as a computer programmer. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa.
He enjoyed fishing, as well as going to the casino and vacationing in Colorado with Janice. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sports activities.
Byron retired on February 15, 2012 and on March 22, 2012 he died at his home in Avoca, surrounded by his family. He attained the age of sixty-seven years, eleven months and eighteen days. He was preceded in death by his father, G. Keith.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janice Martin of Avoca, Iowa; son Gregory Martin and his wife Christie of Shelby, Iowa; three grandchildren: Nikki, Kylie, and Jacob Martin; his mother Hazel Martin of Walnut, Iowa; his brother Bruce Martin and his wife Jeanne; other relatives and friends.
Pastor David Krueger officiated the 1:30 pm funeral service at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca on Monday, March 26, 2012. Honorary pallbearers were: Harry Priest, Peter Green, Doyce Lockhart, Walt Knudtson, Dennis Jacobsen and Tom Gracey. Military Rites were held by the Fred Funston American Legion Post Number 227 at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa.
