C. Clifford Tamm, 88, Hawkeye fan, favorite teacher, and beloved grandpa, dad and husband, passed away at his home September 24, 2022.
Cliff was born December 20, 1933, in Denison, Iowa, and graduated in 1952. He was an all-conference basketball player. It was there he learned his love of sports and his love for the lakes of Minnesota.
He attended the University of Colorado and University of Iowa. He then served in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D Roosevelt 1955-1957. Cliff eventually graduated from NWMSU where he met his wife of 62 years, Judith Ellis Tamm.
Cliff taught school in Parkville, MO, and Carson-Macedonia and worked as circulation manager for the Des Moines Register before moving to Harlan in 1965. He served the HCHS community until his retirement where he taught social studies and US History and coached football, basketball, track and tennis.
In retirement, he enjoyed traveling to the beach and Iowa Hawkeye Bowl Games. He religiously followed the Hawkeyes, KC Royals and Harlan Cyclones. Hunting, fishing and golfing were favorite hobbies. His six grandkids were the light of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Marie Weiss Tamm and his two sisters, Barbara Berglund and Joyce Curtis. He is survived by his wife Judy, children Michael, Chicago IL, Susan (Perry) Sibenaller, Overland Park, KS, Tiffany Tamm (Bill Maxwell), and Jeff Tamm (Marianne), Norway, and grandchildren Sidney (Sam) Nigro, Bailey Sibenaller, Emma Tamm, Espen Tamm, Steven Tamm, Seraphina Tamm, and several nieces and nephews.
The family has designated Tori's Angels or the charity of your choice for memorial contributions.
