Carla Annette Johnk
August 10, 1960 — April 4, 2019
Carla Annette Johnk, daughter of John Kenneth “Bud” and Audrey Maxine (Rosenow) Carroll was born August 10, 1960 in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. As a child, she attended the Trinity Lutheran Church and later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Walnut. Carla graduated from Walnut High School with the class of 1978. After graduation, she attended Creighton University where she completed one semester in the pharmacy program.
On March 29, 1980, Carla was united in marriage to the love of her life, Kent Douglas Johnk at the Trinity Lutheran Church. To this union, three wonderful children were born: Ryne, Brittni and Ty. They made their home at the Johnk Farm outside of Walnut, Iowa.
She was a banker for a total of 28 years, working at the Walnut State Bank, Oakland State Bank, and Rolling Hills Bank and Trust as a teller, cashier, loan officer, and vice president. However, she most enjoyed working as a farm wife.
Carla loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved cheering for her favorite sports teams: the Chicago Cubs, Iowa State Cyclones, and Kansas City Chiefs. Carla also loved supporting her community. She was the Presbyterian Church Sunday School Superintendent for 15 years, youth league soccer and softball coach, 4-H county committee and club leader, member of the church choir, Rainbow girl and Eastern Star officer for many years.
Carla passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at her home attaining the age of fifty-eight years, seven months and twenty-five days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Roger Carroll, Faye Androy and Wray Carroll, brother-in-law Dean Androy and nephew Garrett Carroll.
She has left to cherish her memory, her husband of thirty-nine years Kent Johnk of Walnut, Iowa; children Ryne Johnk and his wife Hannah of Walnut, Iowa; Brittni and her husband Steven Owens of Houston, Texas; Ty Johnk of Walnut, Iowa; grandchildren Ronnie Van Woesik of Houston, Texas; Ivy and Edith Johnk of Walnut, Iowa; siblings Charles Carroll and his wife Mary of Joplin, Missouri; Lyla and her husband Mark Schroder of Hancock, Iowa; Wade Carroll and his wife Terri of Amarillo, Texas; Gayle Carroll of Avoca, Iowa; sister-in-law Ann Carroll of Avoca, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
