Carol Lee Baker

Carol Lee Baker was born in Denison, Iowa, October 14, 1947, the only child of Roy and Marjorie Johnston Dethmann. She was received into God’s Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism November 15, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed in her Christian Faith there April 15, 1962. She was raised in Denison where she received her education graduating from Denison High School. She then furthered her education at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, where she received her B.A. Degree and teaching credentials. Following college taught in Ida Grove, Iowa. On April 5, 1975, Carol was united in marriage with Jack Baker in Ida Grove. They made their home on the farm near Ida Grove and Carol continued her teaching career. In 1996, Carol returned to Denison and made her home with her parents. After her teaching career Carol was employed at various businesses including Schaller Telemarketing, Breda Telemarketing, Penney’s, C.D.S., Denison Newspapers and WESCO. During her high school years Carol enjoyed tap dancing and playing cornet in the high school band. In her adult years, her leisure time activities included walking, playing solitaire and socializing with family and friends. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and the church choir for a time. Due to failing health Carol moved to the Denison Care Center in 2007 and had resided at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison since 2009. Carol died at Eventide Tuesday morning, October 30, 2012, having been blessed with 65 years and 16 days. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Marjorie Dethmann. Those remaining to cherish her memory include one uncle, Leonard (Emma Lee) Klink of Denison, Iowa, cousins: Norman (Sue) Johnston, Dean (Jodi) Johnston, Terri (Brian) Shives all of Denison, Iowa, Rick Klink of Kansas City, Missouri, Allan (Vaunda) Klink of Sioux City, Iowa, Wernes (Ruby) Dethmann, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Diane DeKok of Sioux City, Iowa, Gene (Anjie) Fineran, Jan ( Emil) Blazek and Corrine (Jim) Ratzlof all of Owatonna, Minnesota, other relatives and friends.
