Carol Ann Phipps was born on September 10, 1938 to Cecil and Wilda (McGuire) Waggoner in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended school in Fort Dodge and graduated from high school with the Class of 1956.
As a child, she spent some time in Chicago, Illinois with her family. In the mid-1960's she moved to the Harlan area to raise her boys. She was a very hands-on mom and would be right beside them playing games, being silly, or building snowmen. Later, she treasured the moments she was able to spend playing with her grandchildren.
She took a job with her brothers in Oakland, Iowa, before working for the Headstart program. She eventually became a cook at Mickel’s Family Restaurant in Harlan where she stayed until she retired in 2002.
Carol died at her home in Harlan on Monday, April 20, 2015 having attained the age of seventy-six years, seven months, and ten days. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Genie Risley and Becki Danielson.
She is survived by her sons David Phipps and his wife Billie of Harlan, Iowa and James Phipps of Denver, Colorado; three grandchildren: Amethyst Phipps and Sonjia Phipps both of Harlan, Iowa and Joshua Goeser of Iowa City, Iowa; brothers Bill Waggoner and his wife Cheryl of Oakland, Iowa, Danny Waggoner and his wife Judy of Appleton, Wisconsin, and Bobby Scott and his wife Sheri of New Mexico; other family members and friends.
