Carol Ileen Ridlen was born on February 20, 1940, to Leonard and Verona (Sindt) Rupert in Ida Grove, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Ida Grove. She attended country school in Ida County before completing her education at Ida Grove Public School in Ida Grove, Iowa.
On October 15, 1960, she was united in marriage to Mason Ridlen at the Ida Grove United Methodist Church. Three sons were born to this union: Joe, Jay, and Jim.
Carol worked for the Veterans Affairs Rehabilitation and Counseling Center, retiring in 2002. She loved gardening and RV camping. Her primary interest was watching her grandchildren play sports. A star in her eye was great-granddaughter, Makenzi. She was a long-time member of Beta Sigma Phi, an Iowa State Rainbow Officer, and an active member of her church.
Carol died on Monday, December 21, 2009, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of sixty-nine years, ten months, and one day. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Joe.
She is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Mason Ridlen of Shelby, Iowa; sons Jay Ridlen and his wife Shelly of Blakesburg, Iowa and Jim Ridlen and his wife Dawn of Griswold, Iowa; four grandchildren: Amanda, Brandon, Lucas, and Josh; one great-granddaughter, Makenzi; brothers Merle Rupert and his wife Janice of Ida Grove, Iowa, Curtis Rupert and his wife Nancy of Holstein, Iowa, and Craig Rupert and his wife Janet of Ida Grove, Iowa; other family members and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, December 28, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Harlan, Iowa, with Rev. Dr. David G. Swinton officiating the 10:30 AM service. Interment was held at the Monroe Township Cemetery in Walnut, Iowa, with Mark Ridlen, JoDean Groesbeck, Amanda Ridlen, Linda Kuhl, Marsha Samway, and Matt Rupert acting as honorary casket bearers. Serving as casket bearers were Lucas Ridlen, Brandon Ridlen, Rowdy Rupert, Josh Ridlen, Michael Ridlen, and Mike Rupert.
