Carolyn Rose Oldenburg, daughter of Wilbur and Mildred (Schearer) Saemisch was born December 14, 1938 in Elliott, Iowa. She attended Montgomery County Country School and graduated from Walnut High School in 1957.
On June 7, 1958, Carolyn was united in marriage to Dean Oldenburg in Avoca, Iowa. Together they worked at Dean’s Texaco for 25 years and she also worked at Farm Bureau. She helped take care of Lester and Olive Sorensen, they adopted her since they had no children.
Carolyn was very active in the VFW Auxiliary at a local, district, and state level. She held the Treasurer position for many years for all levels and served at President in 1976 through 1977. She loved to travel with Dean and her sister Marilyn and her husband John. They traveled to a lot of VFW Conventions. Carolyn visited every state but Maine.
She was an avid quilter. She made many beautiful quilts, runners, and tabletop quilts. She loved to crochet. She also spent countless hours volunteering to the Red Cross and her dedication to Camp Courageous.
Carolyn died on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Elm Crest Retirement Home in Harlan, Iowa, attaining the age of eighty-four years, one month, and twenty-two days. She was preceded in death by her husband Dean, parents Mildred and Wilbur Saemisch, brother-in-law John Robinson, special relatives Lester and Olive Sorensen.
She is survived by her sister Marilyn Robinson and her friend Dick Harrington; brother Dwight Saemisch and his wife Karen; sister-in-law Donna Knuth; many nieces and nephews, special niece Karla Janning; longtime friends John and Kim Euchner, Dar and Mary Gessert, Robert and Sherry Anderson, and other friends.
