Carolyn May (Plahn) Spencer was born on May 5, 1950 and the youngest daughter to the proud parents Bert and Helen (Muschall) Plahn in Atlantic Iowa. Carolyn graduated in 1968 from Avoca-Hancock school and then continued on to graduate from American Beauty School, Des Moines in 1969.
In 1971, through a mutual friend, Carolyn met the love of her life, Harley Spencer. They were united in marriage on August 27, 1972. To this union 3 children were born: Lori, Bridget, and Clint.
When Carolyn was not spending time with her children and grandchildren, she had many ways she was involved in the community. Some of those ways were: beautician for 50 years, Chairman of the Blood Mobile for 30 years, Co-chairman of Business & Professional of Avoca, LYO sponsor, Girl Scout leader, Nibble Knots (which somehow always ended with a meal), Knox Project Club, Lutheran Church rummage sale, Lutheran Church hamburger stand at the Pott County Fair, Lutheran Church choir and Neola choir. This is to only name a few, as we are sure we are leaving some out.
On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, Carolyn passed away peacefully at her home under the loving care of her husband. She had attained the age of 73 years, 4 months and 7 days.
The memories of Carolyn will be cherished and kept close to their hearts by her husband of 51 years Harley Spencer of Shelby, Iowa and their beloved cat Jazz; children Lori Spencer of Boulder City, NV and their grand-dog Zzyzx; Bridget Spencer Fry of Logan, Iowa and their grand-dog Betsie; Clint (Angela) Spencer of Boulder City, NV and their 3 grandsons Jake Weirich, Dylan Spencer, and Jeremy Spencer.
She is preceded in death by her parents Bert and Helen Plahn; her mother and father in-law Helen and Doyle Spencer; her aunt Josephine Plahn; and many, many, many dear friends.
Carolyn would like us to remember her loving nature, infectious laugh and always having a smile on her face.
She wanted everyone to know before she leaves this beautiful community of family and friends…..
”I LOVE YOU ALL!!”
