Carroll DeWayne Kallevig, was born September 15, 1931 to Alfred & Olga (Gunderson) Kallevig
in Wilmar, Minnesota. It was there at the age of 18 that he met the love of his life. Carroll met his
bride to be while working as a cook at the Puritan Cafe in Wilmar. Gloria had just started
working as a waitress there when the two caught each others eye. After a brief courtship, the
young couple were united in marriage at her parents home in Irwin, Iowa on May 28, 1950.

Carroll worked initially on a farm where the newlyweds lived for a short time before moving to a
small house by the railroad tracks in Irwin. This also brought an occupational change, as he
began working at Steenhusen Hardware and found that he had a real knack for fixing things.
Jeanne was born in 1951 and Shari came along in 1953 which caused the young family to
expand into a different home on the west edge of Irwin. Sheldon entered the scene in 1955 and
a year later, Carroll launched into business with a friend, Don Ferry, calling themselves Irwin
Pump and Plumbing. After five years, Carroll took a job with the pork plant in Harlan doing
maintenance work. A few years later, soon after the birth of Jenny in 1964, he bought the
business he previously owned with Don, renaming it Kallevig Pump Service.

Serving the town of Irwin and surrounding communities for 50 years, Carroll never did officially
retire, although he did slow down some! He had a passion for his work and he loved his
customers as much as they loved him. He could be seen traveling around the area with one of
his beloved Yorkshire Terriers with him, howling out a song together as they drove. Each
summer for many years, Carroll and Gloria would travel back to Minnesota to visit family there,
which was a highlight for them both. Long time members of the Irwin Church of Christ, most of
their social life revolved around church activities. Eventually they would travel around the area
following his love of photography, taking all kinds of pictures including many weddings. In later
years, Carroll took to gardening, always growing massive tomato plants and wonderful sweet
corn to share with family and friends. A self taught musician, he loved to sit for hours and play
gospel music by ear on his organ.

Carroll went home to be with his Lord on August 16, 2015 after unexpected complications in his
health, having attained the age of 83 years, 11 months and 1 day. Preceding him in death,
besides his parents, were his only sister, Vivienne, and his daughter, Shari. He is survived by
his wife of 65 years, Gloria (Wiig) Kallevig of Irwin; Children: Jeanne and her husband, Greg
Taylor of Fresno, California; Sheldon and his wife, Teri Kallevig of Kansas City, Missouri;
Jennifer and her husband Ron French of Manilla, Iowa; son-in-law Alan Petersen of Irwin, Iowa;
13 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
