Catherine was born on January 23,1920 to Jens and Margaret Jensen in Paullina, Iowa. She grew up in Harlan and had the best of both worlds by having the opportunity of living in town on a farm which later became the Jens J. Park. She graduated from the Harlan High School. In high school she took normal training to become a teacher. She married before she actually had the opportunity to teach.
She loved the farm life. Her wish was always to marry a farmer, so on May 26,1942 Catherine Ann Jensen and Elmer William Linde were united in marriage. They farmed in the Jacksonville area until his death on April 28,1989. Two children, Cheryll and John were born to this union.
After Elmer’s death, Catherine moved from the farm to the senior apartments in Harlan. In 1990 Ed Hansen and Catherine Linde were united in marriage at the Harlan United Methodist Church. They continued living in their home in Harlan until 2006 when they became residents of the Elm Crest Retirement Community. This is where Ed died on August 14, 2011. Catherine remained at Elm Crest until her short stay at the Myrtue Harlan Hospital. Under hospice care, she passed away peacefully on September 6, 2018, attaining the age of ninety eight years, seven months and thirteen days.
Catherine was a kind, thoughtful and gentle soul. During her later life, many people who worked with her would refer to her as a “Sweet Lady”. She had a good sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her mantra was that it’s one’s responsibility to make the world a better place. That was the way she tried to live her life.
Her memory will be treasured by those who survive her, including her daughter, Cheryll Polley and her husband Brownnie Polley of Carlisle, Iowa, daughter-in-law Roxanne Linde of Harlan, three stepchildren: Bonnie and her husband Robert Myers of Shelby, Loraine and her husband Kenny Towne of Hancock, and Ilene and her husband Verne Nelson of Harlan. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Nathan Linde and his wife Erin, Jason Linde and his wife Susan, Tyler Polley, Bethany (Garrett Polley’s wife) and five grandchildren: Madison Polley, Catherine Polley, William Polley, Olivia Linde, Ryan Linde and sister-in-law, Docia Linde of Harlan, brother-in-law, Samuel Walker of Santa Rosa, CA.
In addition to her parents, two sister’s (Marie Talley and Elizabeth Walker) and two husbands, Catherine was preceded in death by her son, John Linde and grandson, Garrett Polley.
