Charlene M. Iversen was born in Denison, Iowa, January 20, 1933, the daughter of Robert Max and Violet Amanda Friedrichsen Moeller. She grew up in Schleswig, Iowa, where she received her education and graduated from Schleswig High School with the class of 1951.On May 25, 1951, Charlene entered the United States Army and was sent to Steno School at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana. Upon completion of her training she spent the remainder of her military career at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, where she received her honorable discharge December 15, 1952.On May 9, 1952, while still in the service, Charlene was united in marriage with Howard Edward Iversen in San Antonio, Texas. Their union was blessed with five children: Robert, Ross, Lori, Jim and Ann.Upon their discharges from the service Howard and Charlene made their home in Schleswig, Iowa, until 1954 when the moved to the Vail, Iowa, area where she had since resided. In February of 1967 Charlene began her long career at Marvin’s Provisions in Vail from which she retired at the end of 2007.She spent her retirement years at their farm home north of Vail where she lovingly cared for Howard until his death June 28, 2013.Charlene was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Vail, serving as church treasurer for 35 years. Since 1952, she had been a proud member of the American Legion Post 65, Vail, Iowa, where she served as Adjutant for a number of years, and was the first president of the Vail Swimming Pool Association. Many in the community will remember her for her dedicated 20 year commitment of serving on the Ar-We-Va School Board.In her leisure time Charlene was an avid reader keeping up on current local, state, national and world events. She found great pleasure in corresponding with friends and family near and far.Charlene entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison July 21, 2016, and it was there her death occurred Wednesday morning, September 21, 2016. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 83 years, 8 months and 1 day.Including her parents and husband, Charlene was also preceded in death by two brothers: Robert and Richard Moeller; and two sisters: LaMae Miller and Sharon Bandow.Those remaining to celebrate her memory include five children: Robert (Karla) Iversen of Des Moines, Iowa, Ross (Janet) Iversen of Denison, Iowa, Lori Iversen of West Des Moines, Iowa, Jim (Carollee) Iversen of Westminster, Colorado and Ann (Craig) von Waaden of Sunnyvale, California; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister: Maxine Hansohn of Bettendorf, Iowa; one sister-in-law: Marion Iversen of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother-in-law: Charles Bandow of Denison, Iowa; other relatives and friends.Per Charlene’s request, a private family graveside service and inurnment will be held at the family’s convenience at the Morgan Township Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa.
