Charles “Charlie” Christensen was born on May 8, 1945 to Carl and Leona (Fennern) Christensen in Harlan, Iowa.
Charlie was an only child and grew up in Hancock, Iowa living on the farm until he entered the United States Army in 1965. While in the Army he was sent to Germany where he was a mechanic in the auto pool. In his spare time he also enjoyed parachuting over
Germany several times.
In 1967 when he came home from the Army he started working for his uncle Henry T. Nelson (Trucking Co.) while working for his uncle 8-Way Trucking bought Nelson Trucking and he continued to work for them until 1983. He also worked for Iowa Pipefitting for
approximately five years in the late 1990’s.
Charlie moved his parents to Avoca in 1973 so they could be closer. He married Linda Hutzell in 1990 and with her came two
children: Susanne and Byron.
Charlie enjoyed dirt bike riding; Nascar; car stuff in general; driving around in his pick-up truck; relaxing at home with his wife and spending time with his family and friends.
Charlie passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 in Harlan, IA having attained the age of seventy years, ten months and thirty days. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Leona; and his wife Linda.
Left to remember Charlie are his step-children; Susanne and her
husband Ron of Avoca, IA; Byron Hutzell of Kansas City, KS:
step –grandchildren; Shea and her husband Scott Tedford of
Chesapeake, VA; Amanda and her husband Sergio Maldonado of
Avoca, IA; great grandchildren: Gabrielle, Danica, Allison and Elijah; Honorary daughters: Debbie Batten and Vickie Long; Honorary grandchildren: Jackie Akers, Jesse Batten and Christian Long.
