Charles "Chuck" Goetzinger was born on October 16, 1945, to Edward and Agnes (Wageman) Goetzinger in Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa, and remained a lifelong member of that parish. He attended elementary school and graduated from St. Boniface Catholic School in Westphalia.
On August 28, 1965, he was united in marriage to Jane Goeser at St. Boniface. Four children were born to this union: Gina, Edward, Sheila, and Melissa. Charles and Jane raised their family on a farm outside of Westphalia for thirty years before moving to Westphalia in 2004.
Chuck enlisted in the United States Army in February of 1966 and served during the Vietnam War. After he was honorably discharged from service in February of 1968, he returned home and began employment at Western Iowa Pork. He then spent many years farming and trucking. Chuck was also employed at G & R Grain and Jim’s Wholesale Meats in Harlan where he remained until his accident.
Chuck was known as a die-hard New York Yankee fan and also a Nebraska Cornhusker fan. He coached and played in the Western Iowa League for the Westphalia Red Sox. He could be heard announcing Harvest Tournament games and was known to almost everyone as "The Voice of Westphalia".
He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing - but his favorite past time was spending time with his three grandsons: Austin, Logan, and Gavin.
Chuck had been admitted to the Alegent Health Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, and it was there that he died on Tuesday, June 12, 2007, having attained the age of sixty-one years, seven months, and twenty-seven days. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward.
Chuck is survived by his wife of nearly forty-two years, Jane Goetzinger of Westphalia; his children: Gina and her husband Matt Tuttle of Clive, Iowa, Edward Goetzinger of Westphalia, Sheila and her husband Bryan Van Veldhuizen of Chula Vista, California, and Melissa and her husband Todd Bruck of Harlan, Iowa; three grandchildren; his mother Agnes Goetzinger of Westphalia; two sisters: Anna Mae and her husband Dale Gross of Harlan and Marilyn and her husband Ron Zimmerman of Underwood, Iowa; two brothers: Bill Goetzinger and his wife Lois and Larry Goetzinger and his wife Julie, all of Westphalia; nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends.
